Targa Historic on server 8 2 Weeks, 1 Day ago
|
|
Hallo everyone
I cannot join to Targa Historic , at 90% of track loading the game kick me down with Runtime error.
I downloaded the track file again (there are 3 tracks), unzipped it back into the folder, and reapplied the 4GB patch.
The error occurs with any car I choose, also in offline mode, for all of the three tracks.
Do you have any additional suggestions?
Thanks
Lucas

Hallo Monello
The issue you are having on Server 8, is exactly the same as me. You are not alone.
I get the same error message as you.
I have tried to load the same track on my Windows XP machine, and it initially crashed, so i deleted all the files in the track locations directory. Then i tried to load the same circuit again with an instant crash out, obviously hehe.
So then, i copied all the track files back into the Targa directory, and now my Windows XP will load the circuit fine. So this is a strange error.
I tried this again on my main Windows machine, and no matter what i do, i still get the error.
It works fine on my Windows XP, but does not work on my Windows 8.1.
There must be a single file or multiple files conflicting with the system. Its the only thing that can be causing the problem i think.
Maybe together we can work something out to fix the problem.

Hi Lucas,
And you can drive the Targa at the KBB?
On the same system?
If so, I’d suggest trying to swap the KBB version with the FBB version.
Simply swap the track folders and try loading the track offline in both installations.
Just for testing purposes, of course.

Hi Fin
@ the KBB Targa is ok, but at KBB there is only Targa Regular.
@ the FBB there are three versions and currently is running Targa Historic.
At FBB crash all the three version.
Tests summarizing (only offline):
- FBB Historic @ KBB run OK
- FBB AIW GPL @ KBB run OK
- FBB Regular @ KBB run OK
- KBB Reguar @FBB run bad, it tries to start, with the incomplete box screen, as per the image, but then it crashes anyway

Hi Lucas,
OK, if all versions work on the KBB installation but not on the FBB, it could theoretically just be a settings issue with your P&G installation.
You need to figure out what’s different about your P&G installation, because basically both are GTR2.
I’d start by checking whether it might be down to the settings in the .plr file.
So try running P&G with your .plr file from KBB.
Make a backup of your "P&G .plr file" and copy your "KBB .plr file" into the relevant directory.
(For me, it’s: ..P&G\UserData\Fin)
This way, you can rule out whether in-game settings are to blame.

Hello Fin, Monello
Thanks for the tips and ideas. I have tried a few things but it always does the same thing, crashes.
I have a feeling this has something to do with either DirectX, or VC++ Redistributable install versions 2005 or 2008 and the graphics shaders within the GTR2 PnG Config settings.
I could be right, or i could be wrong, but i reckon this is pretty close.
Monello ? Can you make sure VC++ 2005 and 2008 are all installed correctly ?
Versions are,
VC++ 2005 6.0.2900.2180 x86
VC++ 2005 6.0.3790.0 x86 and x64
VC++ 2008 9.0.30729.5677 x86
My VC++ 2008 will not install without an error, so maybe this is the problem.

Hi Pluginz/Fin and everyone
Attached file is the situation at my PC
summarizing:
VC++ 2005 8.0.59192 x64
VC++ 2008 9.0.30729.6161 x86
Unfortunately, I'm not a software engineer  ; I'm just a decent PC operator  .
If you have any other suggestions/checks to make, I'll take them all in.
Cheers

Hey Monello
Okies, well it looks like you have the VC++'s installed, and i dont have 2008 installed. So we can probably rule that one out.
I had a look in my Event Viewer, Windows logs, 'System', and also 'Applications', but there isnt any error events showing regarding the runtime error.
Do you have any recent Events in Event Viewer which may help us ?
Speak then

I have a spare hard drive here which has Windows 10 on it. x64.
I will slap it in my laptop, try PnG, and see if i can re-create the error.

Ok back to report,
Are you willing to do another clean installation Monello ?
Create a new installation for GTR2 in another location to your present one.
Something simple like,
Program Files (x86)\GTR2\PnG3.2
Okies, this next step i think is quite important.
Make sure, in your Administator accounts 'My Documents' folder, you have these folders and files, with full Admin access, along with 'SYSTEM' which has permissions for full access, here,
Users/Username/My Documents/GTR2
Gamedata (Folder)
ReplayData (Folder)
TimeTrial (Folder)
userdata (Folder)
Config.ini (File)
sysinfo.txt (File)
Now, make sure that this User Documents folder has full Admin Access, otherwise the PnG install will fail. Along with the tracks.
Now, do a new FBB autoupdater, with your new Program Files installation location, and the previous FBB backup file location.
Let the FBB auto updater run.
Ok, back to your Program Files location.
Now, make sure the GTR2 Config application, and also the GTR2 main application are both running in Compatibilty mode with the tick in the box at the bottom which requires Administrator access.
I have also put a tick in the compatibility box to run in Windows XP mode Service pack 3.
The reason for this, is if you change the PnG exe setup, so it enables CPU affinity on all cores, i think this has to be set in Windows XP mode, as the old girl was mainly running on single core CPU's.
I know it might seem a pain in the arse, but this is the only way i have managed to get it working again.
Let me know how you get on Monello
Speak soon or then hehe
